California lottery players check those tickets because you might be $2.9 million richer.
A Mega Millions ticket that's worth an estimated $2,941,708 million is set to expire this weekend. The lucky ticket was purchased in Los Angeles for the Dec. 12, 2023 drawing, the press release from the Mega Millions said.
The ticket was sold at the SK gas station on 11280 National Boulevard, the release said.
The winning numbers were 8, 23, 44, 45, and 53, just missing the Mega Number 3.
Mega Millions winners who match all five white ball numbers have 180 days from the drawing date to claim their prize.
If no one claims $2.9 million by this weekend, all the money will go to public schools in California, the lottery said.
Anyone with that winning ticket has until 5 p.m. on Friday to bring the ticket to one of the nine California Lottery’s offices.
The winner can also fill out paperwork found here with the ticket and paperwork postmarked on or before Saturday.

When is the next Mega Millions drawing?
The next Mega Millions drawing is on Friday, June 7 at 11 p.m. ET.
How much in the jackpot worth?
The jackpot of the Mega Millions is worth $20 million for Friday's drawing with the cash option of $9.3 million, the lottery said.
The jackpot amount reset after Tuesday night's drawing when one lucky player in Illinois won the $560 million prize.
How to play the Mega Millions
In order to buy a ticket, you'll have to visit your local convenience store, gas station or grocery store − and in a handful of states, you can order tickets online.
To play, you will need to pick six numbers. Five numbers will be white balls ranging from 1 to 70. The gold Mega Ball is one number between 1 and 25.
If you believe the odds are against you, ask for a "Quick Pick" or an "Easy Pick," the computer will randomly generate the numbers for you.
Players can add the "Megaplier" for $1, which can increase non-grand prize winnings by two, three, four or five times. The Megaplier is drawn before the Mega Millions numbers on Tuesday and Friday.
There are 15 Megapiler balls in all:
- 2X, five balls
- 3X, six balls
- 4X, three balls
- 5X, one ball
